Parent’s and Children’s Perspective

Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo, Kids Martial Arts“I have been going to the Dojo for 6 1/2 years. This has been one of the best experiences of my life. Adam Sensei is a wonderful teacher. He makes learning fun but it is not easy! It’s challenging and hard work. This year I am beginning my Black Belt training and I am starting Middle School. I know Adam Sensei will help me through both!”
Spencer, 10 year old student, Mahopac NY

“My son has been a student at the Dojo since he was 5 years old. I have seen him progress from a white belt to his just recently earned black belt. It has been a wonderful experience for him. The students at the Dojo learn the traditional martial arts but also gain valuable lessons that will carry with them into adulthood. Not enough good things can be said about Adam Sensei. He is a great teacher who truly cares about his students as well as the community. I think our son is fortunate to study Jujutsu under Adam Sensei and his dedicated staff. I look forward to my son continuing his martial arts training at the Jinenkan Kōsei Gōgi Dōjō.”
Bill F, Parent of a Junior Black Belt, Mahopac NY

“My son received superior training from Adam Sensei and his devoted staff. From the age of five until a year ago, my son had the great fortune to learn Martial Arts and life lessons… the experience he gained from Adam Sensei has been unmatched. ”
Brian C, Parent of a Junior Black Belt, Patterson NY

“For the past year my daughter has learned so much from Adam Sensei. Adam is able to convey very important life lessons in all of his training sessions. I have personally taught adults and children and know that a great amount of effort and dedication is involved to successfully get your points across to your students. Adam is one of the best I have witnessed in these areas of learning and is truly a fantastic martial arts instructor and role model for my daughter.”
Eileen C, Parent of three students, Carmel NY

“The Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo is a wonderful place to train and learn. Adam Sensei is a wonderful teacher that cares about his students. The Dojo is run the correct way, with a clean environment and people who are trustworthy and who care. The martial art styles are taught very well and the environment makes it a more comfortable learning experience. I give this Dojo my 2 thumbs up !”
Curtis, teenage student, Mahopac NY

“My son has been a student at the Dojo for almost 4 years and he has learned far more than the martial arts he signed up to study. Adam Sensei teaches leadership, respect (for oneself and others), self-control, honesty, health and fitness. Although these ideals are not unique to the Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo, they are central to the curriculum there rather than a side note to punches, kicks and broken boards. Although there is a strong focus on correct form and technique, the goal for for the younger students is to build inner strength so they can stay balanced and make good decisions as they grow and the stakes get higher. Getting involved at the Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo was a great decision for our son and I would recommend it to other parents without reservation.”
Chris P, Parent of a Junior Black Belt, Mahopac NY

“In my opinion, her dedication to the Dojo is the most important challenge my seven year old daughter has at this time. I can honestly say that her time spent there gives Brittany a better understanding of life and the importance of achievement which will ease the burdens that come along with entering each stage of life, from childhood through adulthood. I truly believe that the Dojo has improved the quality of life for my child and entire family.”

Adult Student’s Perspective

Jinenkan Dojo, Mahopac NY“For the last ten years of my life I have had the privilege of training at the Yasuragi Dojo, (now called Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo) under the instruction of Adam Sensei. I first met Adam while in high school and since then, he has become a person who I am proud to call a mentor and friend. The quality of instruction, material covered, and the level of dedication and intensity can not be matched. If you are living in the area and are looking to try something new, or if you are looking to get back on the mat, then you would be doing yourself a disservice to not go and spend some time at this Dojo.
Josh A., Adult Student, Boston MA.

“If you’re looking to study a martial art that is rich in tradition, yet is practical and efficient in this modern age, then training at the Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo will be both mentally stimulating and most physically demanding. Having had a good number of years already in the martial arts and training in the Marine Corps, I found the Traditions (Ryu-ha) not only complemented what I already knew, but pushed the threshold of what I was capable of doing and how much more there was to learn. The driving force behind the study of these historical traditions is Adam Mitchell Sensei. His dedication to and knowledge of the curriculum of study is awe inspiring. As a life long martial artist, his ability to demonstrate these techniques is only surpassed by his desire to pass this knowledge on to willing and dedicated students.”
Brian V, Nidan, Fishkill NY

“The real deal traditional martial arts My experiences with this Dojo have been excellent. I have had the opportunity to train in the art there several times in the past. The fellowship in Budo is like no other. The instructor, senior students and practitioners are very serious. The humility and care that they give to everyone is outstanding. They are easy to talk with and down to earth. This style is the real deal and very enriched in tradition. I would highly recommend the Jinenkan Kōsei Gōgi Dōjō, Mahopac, NY to martial artists. I am looking forward to training there again in future.”
MJ, Baltimore, Maryland

“After about 5 years of training in the Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo, I have had great experiences and made many friends. Adam Sensei creates such a connection with the students; they teach you some life lessons that I personally know I will use throughout my life. I can honestly say I have had a great time at this Dojo. Adam Sensei is, in my opinion, the best teacher that I have ever been a student under.”
Frank, Adult Student, Poughkeepsie

“Law Enforcement Perspective I have been training with Adam Sensei for 6 years now and can not put into words the impact that the hours of training I put in the Dojo has helped me in my law enforcement duties. I recently retired (thank god) and have to say that the traditional, authentic, battle tested, martial arts taught at the Dojo translate quickly and efficiently out on the streets. I worked in Harlem and the South Bronx in NYC and had my fair share of violent confrontations and survived. Having Adam Sensei as an instructor is invaluable in that he, although recalcitrant to admit it, has been in a few violent confrontations in his life and those experiences enable him to teach to his students with the seriousness needed when training/teaching martial arts. He hasn’t just read stuff from a book, he’s lived it. I’ve also had the pleasure to train with Unsui Sensei. His knowledge and expertise is humbling and it is a gift to learn directly from him. The Jinenkan organization is excellent. Top notch people training in an ancient tradition.”
John M, Jinenkan Shodan and Parent, New York City Police Officer (ret.)

“The Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo is fantastic. Adam is a great instructor as well the Dojo offers a great combination of traditional martial arts as well as modern tactical seminars ranging from knife combat to wilderness survival. It’s a place that is very kid friendly but still offers solid education for serious adult students.”
Chuck O, Adult Student, Mahopac NY

“It was an honor to study with Adam Sensei. I only got to study at Yasuragi (now Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo) for about a year, but it was a life-changing experience. I have the deepest respect for Adam Sensei and his students. If you are looking for a positive role model, an environment where discipline, teamwork, and respect flourish, and a truly authentic training in the martial arts, you should not consider enrolling anywhere else. ”
Ari, Adult Student, Mahopac NY

“Wonderful place to forge your spirit! I have had the pleasure to be both a student and a guest instructor at Mr. Mitchell’s Dojo for over 6 years. In my decades long experience in the martial arts I can honestly say that the training there is second to none. Physically demanding, mentally challenging, and spiritually gratifying, Mr. Mitchell challenges his students on every level while providing the most traditional and focused training I’ve ever experienced. The material is technically exacting, as taught by Manaka Unsui Sensei, and so much more. If you want to come see what training in classical Japanese martial arts is really like you should definitely give Mr. Mitchell a visit.”
Evan London,  Jinenkan Sandan, Milford, CT

“Having experienced a good deal of instructors I can say Adam Sensei is among the ones I would consider beneficial to study under – the criteria being skilled, dedicated, knowledgeable, and consistent. As long as I’ve attended the Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo (just about over a year) Adam has been at all of his classes with a coherent lesson plan and has always had answers to all of my questions. While I prefer hand-to-hand training Adam Sensei, the Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo offers more than just Taijustu training, he offers Kenjutsu, various weapons training, condition training, and often hosts various other seminars besides. The classes are all a lot of fun. Some seminars are attended by Adam’s Sensei, Manaka Unsui who…well, he’s just plain cool to see.”
Kevin A, Adult Student, Brewster NY

“I have had the pleasure to train with Adam Sensei and his staff at the Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo. I have been involved in the Martial Arts since I was a child (training in Tae Kwon Do, Kyokushin, Shotokan and Krav Maga) I can honestly say it has been the best experience I have had training in the martial arts, foremost the focus on mastering the basics. His seminars are well planned and loaded with information. I have also had the opportunity to train with Manaka Sensei and many of the other Dojo Cho from around the country (and the world) who all bring a lifetime of experience to training. Adam Sensei also has an amazing children’s program and have yet to see children motivated and focused like I have at the Jinenkan Kosei Gogi Dojo. The atmosphere is that of a traditional Japanese Dojo and with Adam Sensei’s experience, dedication and continuing training with Manaka Sensei, in my opinion, the only place to train traditional Japanese Budo.” Regards,
Denis McCarthy, Adult Student New York City Police Officer

“I had the pleasure to train with Adam Mitchell Sensei for a short time while working in the area. One of the best experiences to study Japanese martial arts in the United States.”
Amir K, Adult Student, New Jersey

“I really enjoy his spirit. His waza is strong waza but I admire his seishin no ryoku even more!”

Distance Learning Student Perspective

“While I have not yet had the experience of training at the New York Dojo, I can say the online resources are 2nd to none! Sensei Adam Mitchell has a passion for what he teaches and the feeling is contagious. He studies directly under Sensei Manaka in Japan and his (Manaka) teaching method is to never forget the basics. Precision/Accuracy are very important and although the movements may look robotic at first – it is stressed that these movements were created in life and death situations – so repeated (accurate) movement is very important until you advance to a stage where you will improvise based on your surroundings. As matter of fact, I feel I have gotten more out of them (being as I am in Chicago) than I would have going to other martial art schools in person. It’s not a slam against other schools, as each has their own way of doing things and I have chosen Jinenkan New York Dojo.”
Sean Ryan, Chicago, IL

“I have been a student of Adam Sensei’s through his Budohall distance learning program for about six months now. Adam’s knowledge and skill as a teacher are exceptional. He is very inspiring to watch as he teaches. He motivates me to constantly train harder and do better by his example alone. The materials he provides are very well put together. Adam also is very accessible as a teacher even though I am 1000 miles away! I can always get the answers I need via email or phone call. I can not recommend the Jinekan Dojo enough! This is how Budo is meant to be trained!”
